Reading:
Please continue to study Chapter 2, Sections 2.1-2.5.
Please solve the following problems at the end of Chapter 2
along with the Poisson PMF question in item 4
and submit solutions on
Oct. 13 at 3:00 PM
Friday, Oct. 15 at 11:00 AM.
Poisson PMF:
Suppose small aircraft arrive at a certain airport according to
a Poisson "process" with a rate of 8 aircraft per hour.
Therefore during a one hour time interval, the number of
arriving aircraft is a Poisson random variable with parameter
alpha = 8.
What is the probability that exactly 5 aircraft arrive during a one
hour interval?
What is the probability that at least one aircraft arrives
during a one hour interval?
We will have a short quiz on Oct. 13 at 3:00 PM that is similar to the
problems on this assignment.
No ELEC 471 class on Oct. 13 at 3:00 PM.
Presentations:
The following students are asked to present their
solution on
October 13October 20 at 3:00 PM
to the indicated problem.
Each pair of students will present the solution together.
Problem 2.3.11:
Stephanie Diegel and Steven Hurrell
Problem 2.3.13:
