ELEC 226, Spring 2012
Prof. Rich Kozick

Homework 6

Date Assigned: Friday, February 24, 2012
Date Due: Tuesday, February 28, 2012
  1. Reading: Please continue to study Chapter 8 on ac power, Sections 8-1 through 8-5. Please study Section 8-5 on maximum power transfer before lab on Feb. 27-28.

  2. Labs: We will have labs on Feb. 27-28, and no labs on March 5-6 (note this is a change in the lab schedule). The updated lab schedule is posted on the labs page.

Bring your class notes, textbook, and breadboard to all lab sessions.

  3. Exam 1 will be on Thursday, March 1. The exam will include the material covered in class on homework assignments 1-6 and labs 1-3.

  4. Please solve the following problems and submit solutions in class on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
    Required Problems: Problems 8.23(a), 8.24(a), and 8.25.

Optional Problems: Problems 8.23(b) and 8.24(b). Also, in Problem 8.23, assume that the voltage source has peak amplitude 10 V. Then calculate the following average powers with and without the shunt capacitor: average power delivered by the source, average power dissipated in the 10 ohm resistor, and average power dissipated in the load ZL.

We will solve the optional problems in class on Feb. 28. If you submit solutions to the optional problems, they will be graded for extra credit.
We will also perform calculations in Lab 3 that are similar to the optional problems (power factor correction).
Thanks and have a nice weekend.
