ELEC 226, Spring 2009
Prof. Rich Kozick

Homework 6

Date Assigned: Wednesday, February 18, 2009
Date Due: Wednesday, February 25, 2009

  1. Exam 1 will be on Monday, February 23. The exam topics will include Chapter 9 (sinusoidal steady-state circuit analysis) with emphasis on Sections 9.10 and 9.11 (transformers) and Chapter 10 (sinusoidal steady-state power), Sections 10.1 through 10.5 (not maximum power transfer in Section 10.6). The exam will be closed-book and closed-notes, but you can bring your calculator and one piece of 8.5" by 11" paper with notes and formulas. You can write on both sides of the paper, if you would like.

  2. Reading: You may find it interesting to read Chapter 11 on three-phase circuits. We will not discuss Chapter 11 in this course, but you will study the topic in a senior course, ELEC 491.

For class on February 25, please review Chapter 6 and begin reading Chapter 7, Sections 7.1 and 7.2.

  3. Please solve the following problems in Chapter 10 and submit solutions in class on Feb. 25:
Problems 10.42, 10.49, and 10.61 on maximum power transfer.
Note for Problem 10.61: The transformer circuit is identical to Problem 9.80(b), so you can use the result for Zab in that problem.
Thank you.
