ELEC 225 Laboratories, Fall 2011

We will have 7 lab sessions this semester in Dana 307.

Please attend lab during your assigned session. There are 14 students in the morning lab and 19 students in the afternoon lab.
Also, please bring your textbook, class notes, and breadboard to all lab sessions.

September 8 15: Lab 1 (Introduction to PSpice) Tips for PSpice:

• VDC is a DC source.
• When you start a new circuit, close your previous projects and open a new project for the new circuit.
• MEG=10⁶ and M=10^-3 (milli)
• For op amp circuits, be careful with + and - inputs, and use "mirror vertically" to flip the op amp terminals.

September 15 22: Lab 2 (D/A Conversion, Superposition, and Thevenin Models)
Data for part (i): Excel file and PDF file
Lab report notes (the entire report can be hand-written, and each student is asked to prepare an independent report):

• Present your analysis for parts (a)-(e) and answer the questions.
• For part (f), draw your 4-bit DAC circuit, and do your best to explain the operation of the circuit. If you are clever, you can use your analysis of the 2-bit DAC to explain how the 4-bit DAC operates (look for the recursive structure).
• For part (g), state how the maximum voltage of the waveform that you observed on the oscilloscope is related to your analysis in part (f).
• For part (i), you can use one of the measured data sets provided above. Explain the procedure for using this data to obtain the Thevenin equivalent circuit for the output pins on the counter chip. Use the Thevenin model to answer the questions.

October 6: Lab 3 (Dependent Sources and Transistors) and reports due for Lab 2

October 20: Lab 4: Op Amp Circuits (Word file and pdf file); Reports due in lab on Thursday, Nov. 3

November 3: Lab 5 (Amplifier Design Using Operational Amplifiers) and reports due for Lab 4
