More generally, attach two (or more) different load resistor values
RL to the terminals, and measure the corresponding
voltage vL
and current iL
across/thorough RL.
Then solve for VTh and RTh
using at least two equations of the form
vL = VTh - RTh
iL.
The method above corresponds to RL = infinity
(o.c. so iL = 0) and RL = 0
(s.c. so vL = 0).
Deactivate independent voltage and current sources (set them to zero values). This step may make the analysis simpler than finding isc.
VTh = voc is obtained from an open circuit analysis of the circuit (and is zero if the circuit contains only dependent sources).
